Architecting Change: Peacock’s Commitment to Community Health through Broward HealthPoint Maternity Care Center

As we honor Black History Month, we reflect not only on the past but also on the ongoing efforts to build a more equitable future. Peacock Architects has long been a pillar in South Florida’s architectural landscape, shaping spaces that foster growth, wellness, and community. Their recent work on the Broward HealthPoint Maternity Care Center exemplifies this commitment, serving as a beacon of hope and support for families throughout the region.

Located in Lauderdale Lakes, the Broward HealthPoint Maternity Care Center offers more than just healthcare services. With wraparound programs that include nutrition, exercise, financial and health literacy classes, job training, and more, the center addresses the holistic needs of the community. Peacock Architects’ thoughtful design ensures that these services are accessible and welcoming, creating an environment where individuals and families can thrive.

The center’s design reflects an understanding that healthcare extends beyond medical treatment. As Amy Pont, Director of Community Health at Community Care Plan, noted, “80% of healthcare is really about where you live, work, play, and pray.” Peacock Architects embraced this philosophy, designing a space that not only meets medical needs but also nurtures the social determinants of health.

During a Black Maternal Week roundtable discussion, community leaders, including Katina Brown-Burgess, D.O., Miguel Venereo, M.D., Rose McKelvie, RN, Dawn Liberta, and Monica Figueroa King, highlighted the importance of such community-centered facilities. They emphasized that this center is not just for mothers, but for entire families, providing a foundation for healthier futures.

Peacock Architects’ work at Broward HealthPoint is a testament to their broader mission: to create spaces that uplift and empower. As we celebrate Black History Month, this project stands as a reminder that progress is built not just through policy and advocacy, but also through the thoughtful creation of spaces that support and nurture communities.

With over 40 years of service in South Florida, Peacock Architects continues to leave a lasting legacy, architecting change – building hope, health, and a better future for all.
